The Association for the Study of African American Life and History was founded in 1915 by Carter G. Woodson as The Association for the Study of Negro Life and History.  Since that time until now, the Association has carried forward the mission created by Woodson to promote, research, preserve, interpret and disseminate information about Black life, history and culture to the global community.

The ASALH Press

Established by ASALH in 2005, the ASALH Press publishes a limited number of books that are in keeping with the mission of the Association.
